Meet the Associate Dean for Research & Enterprise

Professor Elizabeth Daniel, Associate Dean for Research & Enterprise

Professor Elizabeth Daniel

Elizabeth joined the OU Business School in 2005, coming from Cranfield School of Management. Prior to joining academia, Elizabeth spent over ten years in industry, starting her career as a medical physicist and more latterly working as a management consultant after studying for an MBA.

Elizabeth's research interests are in the use of information systems by organisations, with a particular emphasis on IT/IS investment appraisal and the identification and management of benefits from IT/IS projects. She has published numerous papers in the field of business IS and, when possible, she continues to undertake consultancy work with leading organisations, ensuring she stays in touch with current issues.

Under Elizabeth's leadership, the OU Business School continues to develop its distinctive areas of research expertise, including research on socially responsible management such as social marketing, public and non-profit management, corporate social responsibility and sustainability and social enterprise. Other areas of expertise include cross-boundary management, including collaboration and supply chain management, the management of knowledge and innovation and research into management education and learning. All the research undertaken is highly relevant to practice and policy and is carried out with the involvement of management practitioners and policy makers.

In addition to research activities, Elizabeth is also responsible for the School’s enterprise agenda - ensuring that knowledge is shared with potential users, such as small and medium sized businesses, large corporates, public bodies and the third sector.

The School continues to attract funding for its research and enterprise activities from a wide range of sources and also disseminates its findings in peer reviewed journals, books, seminars and workshops and through their unique partnership with the BBC. The research also feeds directly into teaching activities, ensuring course materials and modes of presentation are always at the leading edge of management learning and practice.
